The Hip Dive 2024

The biomechanical analysis of a swing is a massive undertaking—even when you have cutting-edge software to crunch the numbers like we do at Jacobs 3D. With a subject that complex, it can often be very helpful to break it down one piece at a time and work your way through it systematically. One segment isn't necessarily more important than others, but it does make sense to examine some of the "neighborhoods" earlier in the process because they effect so much of what is going on in the overall swing motion.

First up? The hips—broadly defined in this case as the hip joints, top of legs, pelvis and lower abdomen.

Ground Reaction Forces 2024

You can’t alter the rules of physics but you can use external forces to effectively multiply the effort you put into your swing. The  Ground Forces Webinar covers:

-A full description of the external forces that are involved in any human movement
-An easy-to-understand blueprint for how those forces are marshaled for a golf swing
-A trip through the history of ground force instruction over the years—from weight shifts to pressure transfers to ground reaction
-Descriptions and solutions for the most common misconceptions and stumbling points around ground forces
-Practical application of ground force knowledge for coaches and players

These concepts are helping players on every professional tour worldwide get the most out of their bodies and swings. Learn how to use them in your own coaching and playing during this webinar.

Biomechanics Greatest Hits 2024

"What are the most valuable insights from golf biomechanics that can enhance my game without requiring extensive study?"
That’s a popular question, and it resonates with me because my goal has always been to help swing enthusiasts enjoy the game more. This webinar focuses on what I call the five “Greatest Hits” of our biomechanical research. We go through everything from hub path to force direction to linear momentum, and you’ll leave with practical tools you can use right away.

1. The Hub Path
An exploration of how a golfer manipulates the "center of curvature" of their hand path.

2. Force Directions
~ Alpha Force Switchovers
~ Curving Gamma Force
~ Beta Force Timing and Torque

3. Linear Momentum
Examines the linear direction and speed of various body segments. (Amateur vs Professionals)

4. Contributions from Ground Reaction Force
Discover how ground reaction force contributes external ‘work’ to a golf swing and compare it to the golfer’s internal contributions.

5. Global Swing Characteristics
Examining the golfer and club system as a whole.

Golf Science Sprint Class One 2024

The first class in this two-part series focused on club kinetics. It introduced the terminology and concepts of golf science, while also covering how to apply these principles in real-world coaching and gameplay.

Golf Science Sprint Class Two 2024

The second class focuses on the anatomical phase of our research. Explore how ground forces impact the human body and how human variation influences the golf swing. Topics include an overview of human anatomy in sports—including standing, walking, and running—as well as ground reaction forces, joint movements, and human variation.

Dynamics of the Swing 2024

For the final installment of the 2024 Webinar season, we had a "double-header." Dr. Steven Nesbit was the featured guest presenter. Steve taught Mechanical Engineering for over 30 years, and he discussed the underlying principles of how the field of Dynamics is applied to golf. Michael Jacobs then covered how to apply this knowledge to a golf swing. Alpha, Beta and Gamma planes of motion were his main topic along with club kinetics.

It's a mixture of art and science that can serve as an excellent blueprint for coaches and players interested in extracting peak performance from elite players.

The Basics 2020

One of the primary goals of the Jacobs 3D initiative is to translate university-grade research into everyday golf teaching and playing. The first stage in this education is to study the very basics of the kinematics and kinetics of the golf swing. During the Spring of 2020, we hosted our basic training camp in a webinar setting as travel was not possible.
This video is of the first two hours of the spring webinar. During these two hours we covered the basics of the Jacobs 3D convention. Force, torque, properties of the club, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and stations of the swing. This video is a recording of a live webinar, as you would expect it includes commentary and questions from the attendees.

Golf Club Properties & Tour Instruction 2022

Join Michael Jacobs and Dr. Steven Nesbit for the December 2022 Zoom webinar featuring two never-before-seen presentations and a dedicated Q-and-A mixer. Nesbit will help you finally figure out if your equipment is helping or hurting your swing with a presentation on club properties and their effects. Jacobs will give you a peek inside the recent work he's been doing with Tour players that has gotten so much media attention.

Following the presentations, there was a Happy Holiday Q-and-A mixer segment.
